Where can I buy weed in South Africa?
Adults in South Africa get weed in three main ways: by ordering from an online store that delivers, by visiting a walk-in shop or private club in one of the bigger cities, or by growing their own at home for private use. Online is the only one of those that reaches every town, which is why it is how many people outside the big metros buy.
Each route has a different legal position. Growing and using cannabis in private as an adult is decriminalised, but buying and selling cannabis outside licensed medical and hemp channels is not covered by that protection. Our guide to whether weed is legal in South Africa explains the details and lists its sources. Check the current law for yourself before you order from anyone.
How does buying weed online work in South Africa?
Buying weed online works much like any other online order, with an age check at the start. At Green Vault it goes like this:
- Register once for free membership at register and confirm you are 18 or older.
- Browse the store. Each product page shows the strain type, strength and price from our live product data.
- Check the "Receive by" date on the product page before you pay.
- Choose door delivery or a PUDO locker at checkout.
- Pay by card online. We do not take cash and we do not do meet-ups.
- Track your parcel with the tracking email and Track button, and watch for our WhatsApp dispatch update.
Orders placed before 2pm are dispatched the same day. Later orders go out the next working day. The store is open for orders 24/7.
Can you get weed delivered outside Johannesburg?
Yes. Green Vault delivers to the rest of South Africa by courier, as well as across Johannesburg and Gauteng. You can have your order delivered to your door or sent to a Courier Guy PUDO locker, which is handy if nobody is home during the day.
| Where you are | How it arrives | When to expect it |
|---|---|---|
| Johannesburg | Door or PUDO locker | Orders before 2pm usually arrive in 1 working day |
| Rest of Gauteng, including Pretoria | Door or PUDO locker | Orders before 2pm usually arrive in 1 to 3 working days |
| Rest of South Africa | Door or PUDO locker, by courier | Courier times depend on distance; check the "Receive by" date before you pay |
Delivery fees are shown at checkout, and the current rates are also listed in the key facts on our buy weed online page. If you are in Joburg and want the area-by-area detail, see where to buy weed in Johannesburg.
What is a PUDO locker, and how does collection work?
A PUDO locker is a self-service parcel locker run by The Courier Guy, with locations around South Africa. You choose a locker at checkout, and when your parcel arrives you get a PIN on the mobile number you used at checkout. You go to the locker, enter the PIN and take your parcel.
Lockers are useful if you are out at work, live in a complex where deliveries are awkward, or would simply rather collect. Our PUDO locker delivery guide explains the steps in more detail.
What should you check before buying weed online?
Before you pay any online weed seller, check who they are, what you are getting, how you pay and when it will arrive. This checklist covers the basics:
| What to check | Why it matters | How Green Vault handles it |
|---|---|---|
| Age check | Keeps cannabis away from under-18s and shows the seller takes rules seriously | Free membership with 18+ confirmation |
| Product details | You need to know the strain, format, size and strength | Shown on each product page from our product data |
| Payment method | Card payment gives you a record and more protection than a cash deal | Card payment at checkout |
| Delivery information | A clear cut-off and realistic delivery times | Dispatched the same day before 2pm; live "Receive by" date |
| Packaging | Your parcel should not show what is inside | Sealed, plain and unbranded |
| Contact options | You should be able to reach a real person | Contact form and orders@greenvault.co.za; we usually reply the same day |
| Where the product comes from | Knowing the source tells you more about quality | Flower and pre-rolls grown on our own farms |
What are the warning signs of a bad online weed seller?
The biggest warning signs are payment to a personal bank account, no age check, and promises that sound too good to be true. Be careful if a seller:
- Asks for an EFT to a personal account or a cash deposit before sending anything.
- Only trades through WhatsApp or social media, with no website, contact details or product pages.
- Never asks your age.
- Promises guaranteed delivery anywhere in an hour, or anything else that sounds unrealistic for a national courier.
- Claims their weed cures or treats anything. No responsible seller makes medical claims.
- Shows prices far below everyone else's with no explanation. It is often a scam.
- Ships from overseas. Parcels can be stopped and you have little recourse.
If something feels off, do not pay. There are sellers with proper websites, contact details and card checkout, so there is no need to take the risk.

Which is better for sending across the country: flower, vapes or edibles?
All of them travel well by courier in sealed packaging, so the choice comes down to how you like to use cannabis. Vapes and gummies are compact and have their strength clearly shown per product, while flower gives you the most choice of strains. THC drinks are bulkier, but they travel just as well.
If you are new, a disposable vape or a lower-strength gummy makes it easy to start small. Read THC vapes vs flower vs gummies or our guide to the types of weed to compare.
